Mentone & Oak Park

All of my life I believed that the only place I could ever really be happy is living somewhere out in the country with trees everywhere, and neighbors far enough away that they couldn't hear me singing full out.  For the first 6 or so years that we lived in San Luis Obispo county we got to live the dream life out in the canyons with all the critters and oak trees, and I was very happy out there.  And then about 3 and half years ago we moved to surburbia where we bought our own little slice of the Central Coast. Since then, I found out how content I can be out here in this more crowded, less wooded place. I'm not sure how the neighbors feel about my singing, but we all still get along just fine. One of the things that I love best about this place is that it's flat, it has sidewalks, and Tallulah and I can go for nice long walks every morning. I try to get out as early as I can, when it's extra quiet and deserted, and when the light does pretty things to the landscape.  We rarely miss it, and after doing the math, I figure we've done this about 1200 times. Exact same route.  That means I've been at this corner at least that many times, though it's a little bit different every time. Here is one morning in the life of Mentone and Oak Park.

The second best thing about owning your own home (the first is being able to install a doggy door) is being able to paint the walls all the colors. This is the hallway leading to the master bedroom in our home.

If you have visited my website in the past two weeks,  you may have noticed that it looks very different. My  husband has recently taken an interest in helping me with the business side of my work, because he's a whiz at sales and marketing.  He took a look at the FASO website, which is hosting site specifically for artists, and suggested that it might have a lot more to offer than where I was.  He got me to dig deeper, and I found that they have a lot of great features I could use.  One of my favorite on the front end is the "view in a room" feature that allows clients to get a sense of the size of a painting and how it looks in different types of rooms.  As the artist, it's really cool for me to see my work displayed like that. I know it must be really helpful for someone trying to figure out if a piece will work in the space that they want to hang it.
